Nushra Mansuri

Nushra Mansuri is an Assistant Professor in Social Work at Coventry University. She is a registered social worker and as a practitioner worked extensively with children and families in a variety of settings including statutory, voluntary and multi-disciplinary. Her last job in direct practice was in a specialist service for children in the care system which enabled her to do a lot of direct work and advocacy with children and young people in order to try and improve practice and working relationships between various agencies to benefit children, young people and their families. Nushra was sad to end her time as a social worker working directly with children and young people but at the same time, felt frustrated by different aspects of the system. Her next position provided her with greater opportunity to affect change at a strategic level: she worked for the British Association of Social Workers leading on children and families social work in England. This experience helped her to understand in greater depth how policy is decided and the importance of representing the social work profession in co-production with children, young people and adults with lived experience through joint campaigns and shared activities enriching relationships and promoting a better understanding. Nushra now teaches social work students and hopes that she can influence the next generation of social workers to be compassionate and humane when working with people recognising that social workers have the potential to make a real difference in people’s lives. Nushra is a survivor of domestic abuse and was recently a lived experience co-investigator for a Vista project on Integrating Social Care in Response to Intimate Partner Violence and Abuse: Supporting the Adult and Child Victim. Nushra is also a Postgraduate Researcher at the University of Birmingham undertaking a doctorate exploring social workers experiences of parental alienation.
