Our Musicians

Our Musicians...

We have a dedicated team of musicians who run our music programme. Together, they recruit and teach young choristers, play our instruments, plan, rehearse and conduct services and concerts and take the choirs on tours. All of this provides the backbone of our worship and ministry.

Rachel Mahon, Director of Music

Rachel is a renowned concert organist as well as Director of Music at the Cathedral. She is responsible for training and conducting the main Cathedral Choir and overseeing the whole music programme. Since January 2022, she has been Music Director of the Coventry Cathedral Chorus, a concert choir which performs large works including an annual Messiah. Before coming to Coventry, Rachel held positions at Chester Cathedral, St Paul’s Cathedral (where she was the first female organist in the cathedral’s 1400-year history) and Truro Cathedral. Originally from Canada, Rachel studied at the University of Toronto before moving to the UK over a decade ago. Outside of her cathedral duties, she has a busy schedule of solo performances which takes her all over the world. For more information, you can visit www.rachelmahon.co.uk.

Liam Condon, Assistant Director of Music

Liam Condon started as Assistant Director of Music of Coventry Cathedral in September 2025, having previously worked at the Cathedral as Acting Assistant Director of Music in 2023. His previous roles include Assistant Organist at St Alphege Parish Church, Solihull, and Organ Scholar at Lichfield Cathedral. Liam has a passion for inspiring and educating young organists, and is the organ teacher at Warwick School and Bablake School, where he teaches some exciting pupils. He also directs and accompanies a number of choirs within the West Midlands. Liam became a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists in July 2023.

Liam graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London, in 2019, where he was Organ Scholar under the tuition of Rupert Gough. He was accompanist to the Chapel Choir of Royal Holloway, playing live on BBC Radio 3 and 4 as well as touring with the Choir to various destinations in Europe and North America.

Adam Heron, Organ Scholar 2025-2026

As Organ Scholar, Adam regularly plays the Cathedral organ for services and supports the training of the choristers. He is also studying for the MMus degree at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire alongside his role at the Cathedral. Before moving to Coventry, Adam held the Organ Scholarship at Peterborough Cathedral, where he had a major role in playing the organ for services and training the probationer choristers.

Adam grew up in Durham and had piano lessons from a young age, later learning to play the organ. He went on to study engineering at the University of Sheffield and, after graduating, returned to Durham and worked for a local renewable energy company for 3 years. Adam has always been a passionate musician and maintained a busy schedule of freelance musical work throughout university and full-time employment. He finally made the decision to pursue a career in music, taking up the organ scholarship at Peterborough Cathedral in September 2024.

In July 2025 Adam obtained the Associateship of the Royal College of Organists, winning the coveted Limpus and Samuel Baker prizes. He is also an Associate of the Royal Schools of Music and holds a master’s degree in engineering from the University of Sheffield.
