In December 2023, the Church of England approved the use of Prayers of Love and Faith, a suite of resources for praying with and for a same-sex couple who love each other and wish to give thanks for, and mark that love, in faith, before God.
Each parish priest and cathedral Dean has been given discretion to decide whether or not these Prayers will be offered in the place of worship for which they are responsible.
With the unanimous and whole-hearted support of the entire clergy team at the Cathedral, along with the Cathedral Chapter, Dean John has determined, with great joy, that the Cathedral will offer these prayers for same-sex couples. Dean John said, “We are delighted to be able to share in the journey of love and faith that our friends in same-sex couples are making. We want to offer an unqualified welcome to all here in the Cathedral, and look forward to celebrating and praying with those who would like to take up this provision.”
At present, these prayers will be offered within one of our main services: on Sundays at 10.30am (Eucharist), or at 4.00pm (Evensong), or on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5.15pm (Evensong), or on the second Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm at Wonder, our community which explores what we believe using the arts as the springboard for imaginative and creative journeys.
If you would like to meet with a member of the clergy to explore the Cathedral praying for you and your partner in this way we would love to hear from you! Please contact the Revd Mary Gregory, Canon for Arts and Reconciliation via email hidden; JavaScript is required for an initial conversation.
