Group Visits

Come and explore our Casket of Jewels

As the UK’s favourite 20th Century building Coventry Cathedral is a must-see attraction and groups of all sizes are very welcome here!

On this page you will find all of the information that you need to plan your visit and to get the very most out of your time with us.

Visiting with a group

All groups wishing to visit should be booked in advance. Booking your group visit means that we can check the availability of your preferred date and time slot, and can ensure that your group has the very best experience with us.

There is no minimum or maximum group size – we book guides specifically for each group and as such can work around your requirements. In some cases individuals and smaller groups may be combined with a larger group - please do let us know at the point of booking if this causes any issues.

Entry for groups is £10 per person and includes a guided tour from one of our expert guides. The income we receive from group visits supports the upkeep of our wonderful buildings, enabling us to preserve the Cathedral for future generations.

As our friendly and knowledgeable guides are all volunteers who dedicate their own time to the Cathedral we do require at least 4 weeks notice of a tour request, and unfortunately we cannot fulfil requests within a shorter timeframe.

A guided tour is the best way to fully appreciate our ‘casket of jewels’ – one of our knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides will lead your group through the history of the Ruins, the Blitz, and the building of the New Cathedral. We recommend allowing roughly an hour and a quarter for a tour, each guide will provide ample opportunity to ask questions along the way. However, if you have a tight schedule please let us know your maximum tour length and will take this into account.

There are many aspects to the Cathedral aside from its history, including the Architecture and Basil Spence’s vision, the Arts contained within the building and the Artists who created them, and the story of Reconciliation which continues today, and our guides are happy to focus on any area which particularly interests your group. If there is any specific area that your group would like to explore then please let us know!

If any of your group has accessibility issues please advise at the point of booking your tour. If you have any access issues or queries you would like to raise with the Cathedral please contact us.

Opening hours

We are currently open from 10 am until 4 pm Monday to Saturday, and from 12 noon until 3 pm on Sundays. Being a busy working church means that we have a packed schedule of activity on Sundays which may mean that some parts of the Cathedral are not accessible, so in order to ensure that every group has the best possible experience with us we unfortunately do not accept tour bookings on Sundays. We recommend allowing at least an hour and a quarter for your tour, so please do take this into account when requesting your tour time.

Your group is welcome to join us for Evening Prayer at 4 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, or for Choral Evensong which takes place at 5.15 pm on Wednesday and Thursday, and 4 pm on Sunday.

We sometimes hold special services and events which mean that we have to restrict access to the New Cathedral and/or the Ruins. To avoid disappointment, please check the Cathedral calendar for the day you wish to visit or call us.

Refreshments

Unfortunately, we currently have no on-site catering facilities. However – being located in the heart of the city means that there are plenty of options within a short walk of the Cathedral. Visit Coventry have plenty of information about local cafes and restaurants on their website.

Important information for coach drivers

There are two convenient set down/pick up points in the heart of Coventry – Priory Street at the foot of the Cathedral steps – where there are coach bays for drop off only – and Hales Street next to the Transport Museum.

Coach parking is available at White Street car park.

The Sat Nav postcode for coach access is CV1 5FB.

“We visited the cathedral today as a party of six and had a brilliant experience made all the better by our guide Mary. What a lovely lady who was very knowledgeable. She made our day and experience even better and what a great ambassador for your cathedral.”
