Biography:
Presently Organ Scholar at Coventry Cathedral, Stephen Crookes is a South African musician now based in the United Kingdom. He has previously held musical posts at Carlisle, Blackburn, and Portsmouth Cathedrals. With these choirs he has toured to Germany, and Northern Ireland; and sung in Westminster Abbey, Lambeth Palace, and the Royal Albert Hall.
In June 2023, Stephen was awarded a Master of Music degree in organ performance from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where he still continues lessons with his organ tutors, Daniel Moult and Nicholas Wearne, and also conducting lessons with Dr Sarah Tennant-Flowers. He also holds Associate diplomas from the Royal College of Organists and Trinity College, London.
With a Bachelor degree in Business Science from the University of Cape Town, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting, Stephen is a Chartered Accountant of South Africa and an Associate Chartered Accountant of England and Wales. He continues to use his skills in this field by working with charities.
In 2022 he was involved at Hilton College (a school in South Africa) in their project to invest in a new organ in the chapel, and to relocate the existing organ into a new recital hall in the school, which is thought to be the first dedicated recital instrument in a school in South Africa.
