Reverend Dr Oliver Schuegraf installed as an Honorary Canon Theologian of Coventry Cathedral

Yesterday as part of the Community of the Cross of Nails (CCN) International Gathering, attendees saw Reverend Dr Oliver Schuegraf installed as an Honorary Canon Theologian of Coventry Cathedral.

Reverend Dr Oliver Schuegraf, Honorary Canon Theologian of Coventry Cathedral said:

“I am deeply moved, now that I am a part of the college of Canons at Coventry Cathedral. A place that has become such an important part of my theological and personal biography. I see this as a commendation, but also recognition that the
cathedral continues to be committed to the work of CCN and reconciliation.”

Bishop Christopher Cocksworth of Coventry said:

"Oliver is Chair of the German Board of the Community of the Cross of Nails as well as Church Executive for Ecumenical and Theological Studies for the German National Committee of the Lutheran World Federation. Supremely, he is a living embodiment of Coventry Cathedral’s ministry of reconciliation that was born in this place on the morning of 15th November 1940 and gave rise to the Community of the Cross of Nails.

Captivated by that ministry of reconciliation, which is as needful today as it was over 80 years ago, Oliver spent some four years on the staff at Coventry Cathedral prior to his return to his native Germany, where he now works tirelessly for the cause of peace, reconciliation and friendship between nations.

We are blessed in this Cathedral to have such a wise and experienced body of women and men who serve on our College of Canons. In addition to the unique gifts each will bring, Oliver will play his part in the life of the Cathedral by:

  • Being an Ambassador for the Cathedral within his own context, including for fundraising purposes;
  • Helping to connect the wider Church with the life and character of the Cathedral and supporting the ministry of the Bishop as required;
  • Providing expert advice in relation to particular projects."
