Diamond Jubilee Services

This May we celebrate 60 years of the New Cathedral, find out about all our upcoming celebrations. All are very warmly invited!

As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations there will be 8 days of prayer, an international network zoom conference and a special service with the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Choral Evensong with former Choristers

21st May, 4pm

Join us for a special Choral Evensong with former Choristers! The Cathedral Choir will be joined by its former members for a special evensong featuring Wesley's 'Blessed be the God and Father': https://www.coventrycathedral.org.uk/worship-music/services

Community of the Cross of Nails Online Gathering

22nd - 29th May

Three very special online events are taking place as part of the Community of the Cross of Nails (CCN) online gathering around Coventry Cathedral’s 60th anniversary thanksgiving celebrations.

  • Monday 23rd May, from 3.30-6pm, Dean John Witcombe will be in conversation with Revd Canon Paul Oestreicher, on the subject Healing the Wounds of History in a time of War.
  • Tuesday 24th May, 3.30-6pm, Dean John will chair a conversation and discussion with the Revd Mpho Tutu, daughter of Archbishop Desmond, and the Revd Wilma Jakobsen, the first female minister that he ordained, on the subject of Reconciliation, Justice and the Legacy of Archbishop Desmond.
  • Friday 27th May, from 2.30-4.30pm, Dean John will lead a discussion session on Building a Culture of Peace, and the role for the Community of the Cross of Nails, with the help and input of the lead partners from the CCN around the globe. Coventry Cathedral Diamond Jubilee Thanksgiving Service

25th May, 11am

Join Archbishop Justin Welby, Bishop Christopher, the Dean, Cathedral clergy and representatives of the Community of the Cross of Nails International Board and students from Coventry schools as together we give thanks for 60 years of our Cathedral and are commissioned for the years to come. The celebration service will include music from a specially commissioned work by Matthew Martin, sung by the Cathedral choir, as well as music sung at the consecration on 25th May 1962 and a new hymn written for this Diamond Jubilee, which reflects on the Cathedral’s work as a place of peace and reconciliation.

Feast

25th May, 6-8pm New Cathedral Free

Join us for our big Diamond Jubilee feast, an evening filled with memories and stories from the Cathedral as well as good locally sourced food. Bring photos of yourself at the Cathedral and see them projected onto the walls. Followed by the burying of a time capsule from 6-8pm, that will bring together memories collected across the evening. Plus music and dance performances and a live DJ!

60th Birthday Bash

25th June, 12pm

You are invited to our Big Birthday Bash!

Join us for a bouncy castle, crafts, games and of course cake to celebrate 60 years since the new Cathedral opened its doors.
