Join us at Coventry Cathedral for our popular Monday Lunchtime Organ Recitals, running from May to September 2026. These free, half‑hour concerts (12.30–1.00pm) offer a perfect midday pause, showcasing the magnificent cathedral organ played by distinguished guest organists from across the UK and beyond. Each week brings a fresh and varied programme, from much‑loved classics to contemporary and newly composed works, performed in the inspiring surroundings of this iconic building. All are warmly welcome.

6th July - Ian Wicks (Rugby School)

Ian read Chemical Engineering at Exeter University where he combined the posts of Choral Scholar in Exeter Cathedral Choir with that of Organ Scholar in the University Chapel. Following university he joined the St Albans Cathedral Choir under Barry Rose. Ian is currently Head of Keyboard at Rugby School and before this was Headmaster of The Chorister School, Durham and Director of Music at Salisbury Cathedral School for seventeen years.

Ian has given recitals in St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Salisbury Cathedral, Durham Cathedral, St Albans Abbey, Christchurch Priory and churches across the country. He has played for a number of broadcasts of BBC Radio 3 Choral Evensong and BBC Radio 4 Sunday Worship from Rugby School, including Stanford in G, Tippett St John Service and Britten Rejoice in the Lamb. He plays for Evensongs sung by the Rugby Choristers at Bilton Grange; a new choral foundation founded in 2021.

Ian is a composer and has written a number of choral pieces for both children and adult choirs. His Missa Brevis received its premiere in October 2025 and An Irish Blessing for Nell received its first performance in May 2025. His settings of two Eucharistic Hymns: O Salutaris hostia and Tantum Ergo are widely performed as are his Cherubini Service and We three Kings. There is a green hill far away has been recorded by the Rugby Choristers at Bilton Grange. Several of his works have been published by the RSCM.
