1st June - Luke Fitzgerald (Pembroke College, Cambridge)

Luke Fitzgerald is Director of Music at Pembroke College, Cambridge, a role he began in Summer 2025 following four years as Assistant Director of Music at Coventry Cathedral. While at Coventry, closely with Rachel Mahon during a busy period in the Cathedral’s life, which included Coventry’s year as City of Culture, the Cathedral’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the installation of Bishop Sophie Jelley as well as several broadcasts and concert tours with the Cathedral’s Choirs, most recently to Germany in 2025 where the boy choristers performed in Britten’s War Requiem.

At Pembroke, Luke’s new role sees him direct the College Chapel’s two choirs, one of girl choristers and another formed of undergraduate and postgraduate students at Pembroke and the wider University. The choirs have gained a significant reputation for their recent performances in venues such as St John’s, Smith Square, Snape Maltings and the Royal Albert Hall, as well as venues in the USA, Canada and Europe, under the direction of Anna Lapwood. The College also features a new Auditorium for musical concerts and recitals, oversight of which forms another key part of Luke’s role.

He has wide-ranging musical interests, with a background in innovative programming of music from across centuries, disciplines and continents. He has particular expertise in Opera, Baroque and Contemporary Classical music, with more recent opportunities at Coventry to explore new choral music by a range of composers worldwide, including from Nigeria and South Africa.

Programme of Music:
