‘Sent from Coventry’ is Catherall’s ode to his childhood home. It’s a celebration of the pace-setting post-war architecture that made Coventry a city of the future. From the striking Central Baths and understated, graceful station to the idiosyncratic Elephant the iconic landmarks have embedded themselves into Catherall’s memories and are loaded with nostalgia, both personal and for a time when a sense of optimism and hope pervaded.
The exhibition showcases a collection of linocut prints that highlight and record these groundbreaking buildings - many of which are sadly either under threat, closed, redeveloped or demolished.
Originally shown at Eames Fine Art in London in spring 2021 to coincide with Coventry’s year of culture, aside from a one-day talk and pop-up at the LTB Showrooms last autumn this is the first time they have been exhibited in Coventry.
It seems fitting that an ode to overlooked modernist masterpieces is being displayed in the most iconic and celebrated of them all - Coventry Cathedral.
