Today we are delighted to have George Marsh (pictured) as a supporter of our Adopt-a-Day Campaign. The 1st July is actually his wedding anniversary. Now George is urging others to follow suit and help the Cathedral stay open to all visitors by donating £365, which then allows you to mark a special day or anniversary with a notice in the Cathedral reception. He tells us that …
“Coventry Cathedral is a truly iconic building and it inspires all generations with its artworks, architecture and remarkable story. People choose to visit for a wide range of reasons and since 2018 thankfully there has been no entry charge”.
This campaign was put in place originally to protect the Cathedral’s income, when the admission fee was removed three years ago. The figure of £365 is about the average daily amount which can be raised from charging an entry fee.
George continues “Freedom to visit the Cathedral still comes at a cost, so I am happy to contribute to the Adopt-a-Day Campaign, especially in the UK City of Culture Year. It just seemed the right thing to do – nobody should feel excluded from this wondrous place”.
We are relaunching this campaign today, as the Cathedral is now open between 10-4pm on weekdays and with more and more visitors arriving each day. Prior to the pandemic the campaign was really well received, so we are hoping that more people will join us.
With your support just an ordinary day at the Cathedral becomes a great moment to recognise something or someone dear to you. For further details please visit the following page on the Cathedral website: https://www.coventrycathedral.org.uk/wpsite/what-a-difference-a-day-makes/
