Coventry Cathedral will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Aberfan Disaster during our Friday lunchtime service on Friday October 21st. The commemoration will be led by Canon Roger Turner, who will lead the Litany of Reconciliation in the Ruins of the Old Cathedral at 12 noon. A service of Holy Communion will then be held in the Chapel of Unity. Everyone is welcome.

The Aberfan disaster was a catastrophic collapse of a colliery spoil tip in the Welsh village of Aberfan, near Merthyr Tydfil, on 21 October 1966. It was caused by a build-up of water in the accumulated rock and shale, which suddenly started to slide downhill in the form of slurry. 116 children and 28 adults were killed.
