Canon for Arts and Reconciliation

This is an exciting time to join Coventry Cathedral, as Coventry embraces its identity as UK City of Culture 2021, with plans for a rich legacy. As we approach our Diamond Jubilee in 2022, this senior appointment offers an opportunity to shape the ministry of the Cathedral for a new generation who love the building and enjoy our contemporary arts programme, but may not know our story or its significance. The Canon for Arts and Reconciliation Ministry will develop the creative mission opportunities offered by our unique buildings which bring together the arts and reconciliation in an extraordinary story, which continues today.

The person appointed will be at home in contemporary arts culture. They will have experience in delivering creative events that engage diverse communities in journeys of imagination, and a calling to the ministry of reconciliation. They will be an ordained Anglican, and may be appointed to a Residentiary Canonry if suitably qualified. Head of Fabric and Property

We are looking for a new Head of Property and Fabric who will be responsible for overseeing major repairs, health and safety and maintenance for the property and land at the Cathedral.

The Head of Property and Fabric is currently responsible for the following:

  • The 1960’s cathedral (called the new cathedral), its grounds and car parks
  • The Cathedral Ruins, its tower and churchyard
  • Youell House, the Cathedral offices and space within that are rented out to other users, the grounds and environs.
  • Bardsley House – a building in mixed use as offices and community uses.
  • Residential properties and Deanery
  • Other properties that the Chapter may acquire, purchase or inherit.

The post is offered at 21 hours per week although it is expected that the post-holder will be required to attend in the event of an emergency at any time. This therefore means that living within easy reach of the Cathedral (suggested maximum 1 hour travel time) is required.

This is an exciting time to join Coventry Cathedral. As Coventry embraces its identity as UK City of Culture 2021 and as we approach our Diamond Jubilee in 2022, the Volunteers Coordinator appointment offers an opportunity to support and coordinate the volunteer experience of the Cathedral for a new generation who love the building but may not know its story or its significance. The Volunteers Coordinator will have experience of delivery outstanding customer service and be confident coordinating a wide team of volunteers. They will also act as the main point for volunteer department heads, as well as champion and manage the volunteer policy through all aspects of the volunteer life cycle.

Arts & Events Volunteer Intern

Coventry Cathedral is offering an exciting opportunity within our Arts & Events team to gain experience of planning, programming and delivering our cultural and community programme. From street food festivals and peace conferences to promenade theatre performances and classical concerts, our diverse programme welcomes everyone into our spaces, whilst celebrating our differences.

You will:
 Gain experience in a working environment
 Learn how to plan, programme and deliver events
 Gain experience curating exhibitions
 Deliver education tours, for 5 year olds, 15 year olds or 60 year olds!
 Build our communities, through family craft workshops, tea dances, pilgrimages etc.

Coventry Cathedral is well known internationally as a striking example of twentieth century church architecture and for its ministry of reconciliation. It has a committed core of worshippers who delight in the combination of traditional and contemporary liturgy and music and it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors both from this country and abroad. We are seeking to appoint someone who will join our team of musicians to contribute positively to our fine musical tradition as we reach out to a generation not used to church and work towards City of Culture 2021.
The post offers an average of 7 hours per week, spread over two to six days and worked mostly over the weeks of term time, together with Christmas, Holy Week and Easter. You will need to operate flexibly to fit the needs of the Cathedral Choir.
The post is subject to DBS clearance, and will include weekend and bank holiday working.
Auditions and interviews will take place at the Cathedral at a mutually convenient time, and if successfully, the position would commence as soon as the necessary clearance and training have taken place.

Verger (full Time 35 Hours)

£9.30 an hour (35 hours per week on a rota basis)

The Verger Team is critical part of cathedral life, supporting the day to day running and worship across all department of the Cathedral. They act as care taker and attendant. It is an interesting, wide ranging and supporting role requiring a broad range of skills of the successful post holder

The right person is more important than previous experience. The right candidate will need to have a good level of fitness, and demonstrate that they have a mature attitude, are reliable and are able to work under pressure, with minimum supervision. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed how congregations access the Cathedral and its services, thus an ability (or willingness to learn) to operate the equipment necessary for live- streaming and recording services is essential.

Please Note: The successful candidate will need to be a committed Christian as they will be required to lead small services and prayers. They will also be required to have a cleared DBS check, and will be required to work a flexible shift pattern including weekends and bank holidays. The post will be for 35 hours per week on a rota basis, and you will need to be willing to operate flexible shifts with your colleagues to provide cover as is required for services.
