For generations of Coventry’s schoolchildren a trip to the Cathedral has been a highlight of the academic year. But, as a result of lockdown, it’s not possible for this year’s cohort to visit Spence’s masterpiece.

Head of Education at the Cathedral, Emma Griffiths, reached out on social media for help so the Cathedral could continue to share its unique story of destruction, rebuilding and forgiveness with the next generation.

Local businessman, Michael Mogan MBE, immediately offered to support a “virtual-tour” video of the famous landmark. Using the skills of local videographer, Chris Noonan, an educational tour video has been created and will be made freely available to schools throughout Coventry’s year as City of Culture.

Michael said “I will never forget my 12 years working at the Cathedral – or the school trip I made from St John Fisher’s in 1979 as a 10 year old schoolboy. To me, it’s essential that we use the opportunity 2021 presents to share the Cathedral’s wonderful message. I was delighted to donate to the video ”

“While our physical activity has been curtailed it has been great fun creating resources to accompany the film for teachers and pupils to use. Thanks to Michael and Chris we can show them on a screen what they’ll be able to see in person one day.”

The video and resources can be accessed on the Cathedral’s website click here for more information.

Look out too for the announcement of a competition for media studies students using the rushes from this film to create a piece of their own.
