Parents who have suffered the loss of a child of any age are welcome to meet at the Cathedral on the first Monday of each month (or the second Monday if the first is a Bank Holiday) at 5.45 pm for a short service in the Chapel of Unity, during which those children whose anniversaries will occur that month, are remembered by name. The service is usually followed by an opportunity to talk, sometimes to hear a speaker and always to spend time with one another.
There is a Book of Remembrance in the Cathedral in which parents can ask to have names written, on application to the Cathedral Office.
On the anniversary of a child’s death, families are invited to spend a few private moments round the Book of Remembrance after Evensong or Evening Prayer.
A short informal service is held in the week before Christmas, which is a specially poignant time; a more structured service is offered to all bereaved parents and their families in May. Please click on the links below to view the addresses given in recent years.
A listener is available by appointment to spend time with a bereaved parent.
