west-screenEveryone should have a Will and keep it up to date. It is the only way to ensure that your wishes are followed after your lifetime.

Securing the future of Coventry Cathedral, its ministry and iconic built heritage will take time and we will need support and encouragement for many years to come.

You can play an important part in helping us in challenging times and enabling tens of thousands of people to benefit from our commitment by leaving part of your estate to secure the Cathedral’s future.

If you are considering making a Will, we strongly recommend that you take legal advice.

There are two kinds of legacy that you may wish to consider:

A specific legacy

This is a fixed amount, a property or some specific item. We would recommend using the wording below:

“I bequeath to Coventry Cathedral the sum of £…. And I declare that the receipt of the Dean and Chapter for the time being or other proper officers of the charity shall be sufficient discharge for such legacy.”

A residuary bequest

This is what remains of your estate following specific bequests to family and friends. We would recommend the wording below.

“I bequeath to Coventry Cathedral all (or …. share) of the residue of my Estate and I declare that the receipt of the Dean and Chapter for the time being or other proper officer of the charity shall be a sufficient discharge of the same.”

How you could help

A donation in your Will could support the on-going cycle of conservation work needed for the medieval ruins. Or it could help to preserve the high visible and audible standard of our choirs for decades hence, ensuring a world class experience for future choristers with superb instruments and music to augment their reputation. A donation in your will could also ensure the long term survival of our schools team with all their ground-breaking local and international work or help to reconcile humanity to the ‘other’ for generations to come, providing for a “kinder more Christ-like world”.

We welcome any donation for Coventry Cathedral but here are some ideas to help guide you in your thinking:

£2,000 would enable our schools team to work with a school to become an ICONS partner.

£5,000 – £10,000 would enable us to continue to repair the fabric of the Ruins and new Cathedral.

£20,000 – £50,000 would support our Ministry of Peace and Reconciliation in areas of conflict all over the world and the on-going bursary for training at Saint Michael’s House. We welcome any amount for any of the areas outlined in this leaflet. Specific projects can be identified to suit a particular interest that you may have. Please contact us to arrange a meeting to discuss this further.

£100,000 would represent 25% of what it is going to cost us to do much-needed work to overhaul our fantastic pipe organ and secure its future as a world-class instrument for many years to come.

Each year we will invite those who have pledged a legacy to a couple of exclusive events at the Cathedral so you can keep in touch and hear more about the our plans, activities, mission and ministry. The details of your pledge do not need to be provided to us. We simply need to know if you have included us in your Will so we can include you on the invitation list.
