The Lord Mayor of Coventry, dignitaries and members of the Ukrainian community in the Midlands will gather to remember and pray for the victims of the Holodomor – the artificial famine of 1932-33 in Ukraine.

The Requiem will be in Ukrainian and will be followed with an address by Simon Bell, well known researcher and broadcaster of the Holocaust, on the causes and consequences of genocides.

All friends and neighbours from Coventry are invited to participate in the event, to remember the victims and reflect on what we can and should be doing to prevent such tragedies.

An exhibition on the Holodomor will be open from 11 am.

The logo of the Holodomor remembrance recalls the fact that, under Soviet Laws, anybody caught stealing ‘state property’ – and all grain/foodstuffs had been declared such – faced execution. Just five ears of wheat, rye or other grain were sufficient for the penalty to be enacted.

Holodomor Commemoration

Although some sources are saying that Knife Angel (see here) has already arrived in Coventry, we are not expecting this amazing sculpture to be with us until the week beginning March 11th. It will be here until mid-April.
