In the light of what has been happening in Gaza this week, we wanted to express our sorrow at the violence that has resulted in deaths and more conflict between those involved. We are praying for God’s grace and love to be shown at this time, and we pray that we can all search together for justice, forgiveness, peace and healing.

A couple of weeks ago, the Canon for Reconciliation and some members of her team, visited our Community of the Cross of Nails partners in the region and met a wide range of people working for peace and reconciliation. We were encouraged and inspired by their work and their hope in the midst of conflict and suffering. We would like to encourage them in return to continue their work to bring peace, healing and reconciliation to the situation which is needed now more than ever.

At Coventry Cathedral we pray the Litany of Reconciliation at noon every day and we are joined on Fridays by our partners from around the world. At this Friday’s Litany we will continue to pray for the situation in Gaza by holding a vigil and we invite you join us in the Cathedral Ruins. If you are unable to join us in person we kindly invite you at midday on Friday to pray the Litany of Reconciliation wherever you are.

The Litany of Reconciliation

All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

The hatred which divides nation from nation, race from race, class from class,
Father, forgive.

The covetous desires of people and nations to possess what is not their own,
Father, forgive.

The greed which exploits the work of human hands and lays waste the earth,
Father, forgive.

Our envy of the welfare and happiness of others,
Father, forgive.

Our indifference to the plight of the imprisoned, the homeless, the refugee,
Father, forgive.

The lust which dishonours the bodies of men, women and children,
Father, forgive.

The pride which leads us to trust in ourselves and not in God,
Father, forgive.

Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
