Dean Petty with Her Majesty The Queen at Coventry Cathedral on March 3rd 2000

The Dean writes:

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Dean John Petty.

John was, and has remained, well loved in the Cathedral community and it was my privilege to visit him and his wife Sue in their home in Shrewsbury. His part in the contemporary journey of Coventry Cathedral was immense, introducing the hugely valued healing ministry, and putting in place considerable financial resources to secure the Cathedral’s future.

In recent years John’s health has failed considerably, and he has suffered both physical and mental disability, and so this news marks the end of a long and difficult journey for John and for his family.

Our prayers are with Sue and the whole family, and we look forward to marking John’s life and ministry in a service of celebration and thanksgiving to be held at 2 pm on Saturday April 14th 2018 in the Cathedral which he loved. May he rest in peace.

The Very Reverend John Petty
