ruins-excavationFollowing the restoration work in the Ruins last summer, the Cathedral has invited George Demidowicz, Archaeologist, to talk about the project and the finds that were discovered underneath the flagstones of the ruined Cathedral on Thursday 10th March at 7pm. Joining George will be Kelley Christ, the Cathedral’s Architect; she will share the challenges of undertaking engineering projects in historical places.

“We will also be displaying some of the finds for the first time since the excavation. Whilst not of high value in monetary terms they provide a fascinating insight into the destruction of the ruins and a glimpse of the interior destroyed during the blitz. Paul Murray, Field Archaeologist, will be on hand to answer questions on the finds,” explained the Very Reverend John Witcombe, Dean of Coventry.

Tickets are £10 per person (£8 per person for members of the Cathedral Community or Friends of Coventry Cathedral or those on the Cathedral electoral roll. Tickets can be purchased via the Cathedral shop or online by clicking here. The event will be held in the new Cathedral. The event is sponsored by the Friends of Coventry Cathedral and the Deeley Group.

‘What lies beneath?’ – the archaeological discoveries in the Ruins

Although some sources are saying that Knife Angel (see here) has already arrived in Coventry, we are not expecting this amazing sculpture to be with us until the week beginning March 11th. It will be here until mid-April.
