Good Evening. Welcome to Coventry Cathedral. An extraordinary place. A story you can't ignore.

Faith in Conflict conference

The ‘Faith in Conflict’ Conference took place in the Cathedral from 26-28 February. To download recordings and transcripts from the conference, please click here.

All church traditions face conflict, with tensions and power-struggles in local churches, and with challenges at national level. Often those involved feel ill-equipped to deal with these tensions. The Church has been given the message of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:19) and yet it is the secular world that has realised the value of addressing conflict through processes such as mediation.

The ‘Faith in Conflict’ conference, taking place in Coventry from 26-28 February 2013, seeks to:

• enable you to find better ways to engage with conflict in church life
• connect you with others wanting to work creatively at this
• offer you the opportunity to learn from Christian professionals who have worked on handling and transforming conflict for many years.

If you have oversight responsibilities within your church role or are a Christian professional working in restorative justice, teaching (PSHE), mediation or other areas of conflict transformation then this is the conference for you!

It’s going to be much more interactive, experiential and creative than a conventional conference. In taking part we expect that you will:

• Share stories and experiences of conflict in your respective Christian communities - the good, the bad and the ugly
• Reflect on experiences of handling diversity and managing conflict found in the Bible
• Discover ways in which the church can harness the creative power of conflict
• Share a commitment to advancing conflict transformation and know where to find support on that journey

The conference is sponsored by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, the Bishop of Coventry, Christopher Cocksworth, the President of the Methodist Conference, Mark Wakelin, and the President Elect of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, Ernie Whalley.
