Practical Applications

The ICR's current projects and recent achievements include:

  • Mediating between Muslims and Christians in bloody riots that swept across

    northern Nigeria in 2000-1.

  • Facilitating delivery of medical aid into Iraq in 2001-2.

  • Brokering the First Alexandria Declaration of the Religious Leaders of the Holy

    Land in January 2002, bringing together the key Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders of Israel/Palestine.

  • Coordinating the Alexandria Process (the religious track of the Middle East peace

    process).

  • Helping negotiate the resolution of the siege at the Church of the Nativity in

    Bethlehem in April/May 2002.

  • Brokering the Kaduna Peace Declaration of Religious Leaders in Nigeria, August

    2002.

  • Helping to build Mar Ephrem School in Bethlehem, for children from its Syrian

    Orthodox community.

  • Brokering the Baghdad Religious Accord in February 2004, bringing together the

    key Christian, Sunni and Shia leaders in a commitment to peace in Iraq.

  • Establishing the Iraqi Institute for Peace, a body committed to dialogue and

    peace in Iraq, in 2004.
