will offer us information and insights on the great challenge of Conflict and Religion.
Our Inspiration
On the 14th November 1940, the medieval cathedral of Coventry was destroyed. Yet, out of death and destruction, emerged a pledge: ‘Our enemies’, the then-Provost Williams said, ‘will become our friends’.
The symbol of this vision became the Cross of Nails, created out of the 14th century nails taken from the charred roof beams of the destroyed cathedral. It became a powerful reminder of the need for reconciliation between God and humankind and among human beings.
The Community of the Cross of Nails (CCN) had its beginnings in the reconciliation with Germany, but then spread over all five continents. Today we are a network of over 200 centres, each responding in its very own way to the challenges of its particular situation,
bringing its own expertise into our network and thus adding a new dimension to the Community.
Sharing in Fellowship
Such a community can only thrive when it comes together to share in fellowship. This will be the major focus of this year’s International Conference of the Community of the Cross of Nails. Its varied programme will provide ample opportunity for:
sharing stories, ideas and lessons
prayer and worship centred on the Cathedral
listening to keynote speakers
an update on the work of the International Centre for Reconciliation
a time for reflection, refreshment and renewal
discussion on how to strengthen the CCN worldwide network in the future
